Chapter 14: Linking Drawings / External References

In Chapter 9, you learned how to use blocks to import symbols into an AutoCAD drawing. External References (XREFs) are conceptually very close to blocks. Just like blocks, XREFs allow you to import drawings like a title block into any other AutoCAD drawing with one advantage: external references will automatically import changes made to the original drawing.

This chapter includes and discusses the following AutoCAD commands and concepts:
  • Using Drawing Overlays
  • Drawing with XREFs
  • Using the XREF Manager
  • Adding XREFs to your Drawing
  • Using XREFs with Plans
  • For Individual Designers
  • For Multiple Designers
  • Using XREFs with Elevations
  • For Individual Designers
  • For Multiple Designers
  • Learning Exercise
